Longevity medicine: useful, overhyped, and how to tell the difference

Longevity clinics sell two quite different things under one label. One is unglamorous and well supported: measuring biomarkers, correcting deficiencies, treating metabolic risk, supervising hormones properly. The other is a menu of infusions and peptides whose evidence ranges from promising to nonexistent. The first is worth travelling for; the second requires a much harder look.

Peptide therapy is published from about $1,500 USD and the wider longevity and regenerative programme from $4,000, supervised by the coordinator's medical director. Any of it should begin with testing, not with a drip.

Start with measurement

A protocol that starts before a baseline panel is a product, not a treatment. Biomarker testing is what makes the rest interpretable — it tells you whether anything changed, and it is the only defence against paying for a year of infusions on the basis of how you feel in a week.

Hormones deserve their own conversation

Testosterone replacement and other hormone therapy have genuine indications, measurable endpoints and real risks, and they need ongoing monitoring rather than a holiday prescription. If a clinic will start you on hormones over a single visit without labs and a follow-up plan, that tells you what you need to know.

The regenerative treatment most people actually buy

Long before anyone books a stem-cell protocol, the same mechanism is being sold at the aesthetic end of the same clinic: collagen biostimulators. Poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite do not fill anything — they provoke the tissue into producing its own collagen over months, which is regenerative in the literal sense and far better characterised than most of what carries the label. They are published from $450 USD per vial, though the number that matters is the full course, and the difference between the two main products is set out in this comparison. If what you need is volume in one defined place rather than skin quality across an area, that is hyaluronic acid instead — a different product, a different price and a different timeline.

Protocols and what supports them

Cost

GLP-1 medication has changed this conversation considerably, and it is the one area where demand has outrun careful supervision almost everywhere. Read the physician-written summary rather than the marketing, wherever you are treated.
