Fertility treatment in Colombia: cost, calendar and candour about odds

Fertility travel is different from every other kind of medical tourism in one respect: the outcome is probabilistic. You are not buying a repair, you are buying a cycle with a success rate — and the honest number depends far more on age and ovarian reserve than on the country.

IVF is published from about $5,000 USD per cycle in Medellin against roughly $20,000 in the United States, egg freezing from about $3,500 per cycle against $12,000 or more, with lower annual storage fees. The full fertility programme — IVF, ICSI, IUI, donation — starts at $5,000.

What the cycle price does and does not include

Medication is the line that most often sits outside the quoted figure, and it is not trivial: stimulation protocols vary in cost by a wide margin depending on your response. Genetic testing of embryos is a separate charge again, as is freezing and annual storage. Ask for the full sequence in writing — consultation, monitoring scans, retrieval, laboratory, transfer, medication, testing, storage — and compare that against a home quote built the same way.

Two trips, not one

A fresh transfer means roughly two to three weeks in the country. Many patients instead do stimulation and retrieval on one trip and a frozen embryo transfer on a second, shorter one. That is a scheduling decision with clinical implications, and it should be made by the specialist rather than by the flight price.
